We left Port Charlotte and drove to Sanibel island where it is always hot and sunny . We did the wildlife drive at Ding Darling and had a wonderful surprise,an immature Yellow-crowned Night Heron strolling right in front of us. Then further along an adult one also. These herons are sometimes elusive and stay far away, so this was the highlight of the birding for us. On another trail, Colleen saw a Black Racer snake cross the sidewalk which was a surprise.
We checked out the beaches for shorebirds and found a group of Ruddy Turnstones. We also saw Willets today at Sanibel.
We are staying at the La Quinta located at the causeway to Sanibel and went for supper down the road. Then we came back to the hotel and we went for a swim in the heated pool. The stars were out and it was beautiful. The only other people we met in the pool were Canadians!! There is no photo of our swim or hot tub visit.
Another day in paradise here and we are happy with the birding today.
PS - photos were added.
Barbs & Colleen
