Jan 17 - Circle B Bar and the Birding Gods are smiling today!!

So one wakes up after a great sleep and the first bird of the day is a White-winged dove.  How sweet is that?  This dove showed up at Colleen's feeder so I ran out while having breakfast and took the shot.

The second birds of the day were Purple Gallinules which came out of the bushes in the water at Lake Hunter.  They were so close and we did not even have to clap our hands.

They were so cute and the light was perfect.

We arrived at Circle B Bar and the next very special photo was a romantic side by side pair of Barred Owls.  Apparently a birder explained that yesterday there was only one Barred Owl and he was calling.  Today there was a pair, resting.  The only thing missing was the smoking cigarette.....

Circle B Bar was very busy with all kinds of people and mobile news companies.  I had one news channel put a mic on me and ask me questions about the big alligator stroll among park walkers there this past Sunday and I had not seen the video.  There was so much commotion.   There was no parking available and we parked illegally.  When we got back to Colleen`s we finally viewed the video which generated all the publicity on Colleen's computer.

The park was busy then but we did get some lovely birds including a Red-shouldered Hawk and a Green Heron having a bad hair day in the breeze.

It was hot about 86 degrees by the time we left the Circle B Bar.  Before we left we had the lovely Black-bellied Whistling Ducks.  One can usually count on seeing these birds here.

Of course this was the perfect place for our selfie today.

On the road to Port Charlotte we continually scanned the hydro lines to look for Crested Caracara with no luck.  Just before we got to Port Charlotte we were so lucky to see two of the birds in the ditch beside the highway..  We turned the car around and went back to the spot and they birds were still there.  We did a happy run to the birds to get pictures. Sort of a Mr. Bean hurry and scurry, plus we were in the ditch, so we had to be careful.

So Barbr's highlight was the Caracara, she was thrilled to see the pair and take some excellent photos.  I am thrilled with the White-winged Dove and Colleen was happy with the Caracara also.  We had some special birds today.  Each of us has contributed to the photos today.

We went into Punta Gorda for supper in the Fishermans Village area and we are on the outdoor patio wharf.  A lovely spot and very busy there.  Colleen and I had the catch of the day Grouper and Barbr had a burger with the works, she does not care for fish.  We saw this sunset from the wharf.  Another great day.
